SWNA announces 2026 Junior Citizen of the Year recipients

The Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association has named the recipients of the 2026 Junior Citizen of the Year Award.

The awards are presented by SWNA in partnership with Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre, SaskPower and the Crown Investments Corporation of Saskatchewan.

This year's recipients are Eli Bartlett of Prince Albert, Noah Cappelle of Meadow Lake, Kynlee Hicks of Regina and Karianne Skopyk of Christopher Lake.

The Junior Citizen of the Year Award recognizes young people between the ages of eight and 18 who demonstrate resilience in overcoming challenges, lead positive lifestyles, volunteer in their schools and communities, and consistently act with kindness and a strong sense of responsibility. Each recipient receives a $3,000 bursary provided by SaskPower.

Marinn Acorn of Prince Albert has been named the recipient of the Junior Citizen of the Year STEM Award. The STEM award recognizes a Saskatchewan youth who holds the same qualities as a Junior Citizen of the Year and has an aptitude for science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The STEM recipient receives a $3,000 bursary provided by Crown Investments Corporation of Saskatchewan.

The awards will be presented May 28 at Government House by Her Honour, the Honourable Bernadette McIntyre.
