REGINA - SK Arts will launch a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2027 to recognize Saskatchewan artists who have shaped the province's cultural landscape, the agency announced.

CEO Lisa Bird-Wilson said the award is part of a broader vision to celebrate excellence, cultural impact and creative leadership across the province.

"Saskatchewan is home to extraordinary creative talent," Bird-Wilson said in a statement. "We want to ensure artists at every stage of their careers are celebrated in meaningful and lasting ways, and that emerging artists have something to look forward to."

The award will recognize an individual whose career demonstrates sustained excellence and a lasting contribution to Saskatchewan's creative sector. SK Arts said the 2027 direction will place greater emphasis on artists whose work has shaped communities, influenced culture and inspired future generations.

Board Chair Ian Rea said the move reflects a renewed commitment to recognizing individuals who have built the province's arts and cultural landscape.

"The Lifetime Achievement Award honours artists and cultural leaders whose sustained contributions have made an enduring impact on the province's creative sector," Rea said. "SK Arts is committed to long-term artistic excellence and leadership, which are essential to a sector generating cultural, economic and individual career value."

SK Arts said expanded artist recognition initiatives will also roll out in 2027, with further details coming later this year. Specific event details will be announced in the coming months.
