Lorna Anne Payne

September 12, 1952 – September 6, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lorna Anne Payne, who passed away on September 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with COPD, just days before her 74th birthday.

Lorna was predeceased by her beloved spouse, William “Bill” Payne; her parents, Gordon and Isabella Whitmore; her sister, Faye Dowie; and her sisters-in-law, Shirley Payne and Lynda Pronger.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Steve, his wife Kat, and their children Penelope and Fox; and by her daughter, Sarah, her husband Mike, their children Hunter, Parker, and Madison, and Sarah’s stepchildren with Mike, Mackenzie, Tyler, and Taya. Lorna is also survived by her sisters Donna Jean (Russell), Dorothy (Ken), and Joyce (Pat); her brother-in-law Dale Dowie; her sister-in-law Irene (Larry); as well as several nieces and nephews.

Lorna had a joyful spirit and found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She loved Elvis, bowling, golfing, puzzles, playing Candy Crush, and spending time with her friends, family, and especially her grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Lorna worked hard and gave generously of herself. Alongside Bill, she helped build their HVAC business and card shop. She also worked at Wes-Can, Bentley, and Home Outfitters, where she made connections with many people over the years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on September 30, 2026, at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 603 Wellington Crescent.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lorna’s memory may be made to the Lung Health Foundation.
