Earl John Smith

March 25, 1933 – July 13, 2026

Earl passed away peacefully in Lumsden, Sask. on July 13, 2026 at the age of 93. He was born at Lacadena, Sask. Predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and Frank Smith; his wife Marion Smith (Gunn); his daughter Tammy McIntyre; sisters Elsie (Jock) Speir, and Dorothy (Vernon) Mullis. Earl is survived by daughters Wendy (Colin) Swarbrick, Lynn (Bill) Boyd, Lois (Roy) Klym; son-in-law Greg McIntyre; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Don Gunn; numerous nieces and nephews.

Earl was well-known for his craftmanship; he loved working with wood and created the most beautiful Intarsia masterpieces. He was also a skilled cribbage card player and had a love for music. His family was most important to him; so proud of his children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren & of all their accomplishments.

He farmed the family farm in the Lacadena area, as well as managing the Pioneer Grain Elevator in Tyner, Sask. for 32 years. He enjoyed building their retirement dream home by Lake Diefenbaker, living there for 20 years. They spent many winters at Lake Havasu, Arizona and eventually moved to Outlook, Sask.

After Marion’s passing, he moved to Caleb Village, Kindersley, Sask. where he was part of their family for 6 years. Thank you to Nancy & George for welcoming him and to Lana for providing him the extra care he needed to prolong his stay there. With his health declining, he moved to PJ’s Personal Care Home in Lumsden, Sask. where he received exceptional care from Pam, her wonderful team, and Dr. Matt Butz. We thank them for their compassion and personal care for Earl the last 2 years of his life.

A funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, Eston, Sask. on Saturday August 22, 2026 at 2:00 pm. Following will be a private family internment at the Eston Cemetery. Luncheon to follow. Donations in memoriam may be made in Earl’s honour to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada or to The Alzheimer’s Society of Sask.
