"You just need one person to listen, get your message, and pass it on to someone else. And you've doubled your audience." — Robert Gerrish
Looking for a new podcast to add to your listening library? These five shows are new and noteworthy and could be the next "Serial," the next "SmartLess," or simply your personal favorite:
Film Reviews: "The Good, The True, and The Cinema" -- If you grew up in the '80s, you probably remember watching Siskel & Ebert's syndicated movie-review show or reading your local movie critic's column before heading to the theater on Friday night. This new podcast gives you a taste of the classic movie review in audio format. In addition to the hosts' timely topics, they also provide double-feature recommendations by pairing up a new flick with "an oldie but a goodie." (GoodTrueCinema.com)
Leisure: "The Room We Wanted" -- Do you wish you still had a photo of your childhood bedroom, the one with purple walls and posters of your favorite heartthrob as a teen? If you don't have a photo, this podcast can take you back there. Its bio states: "The things we loved when we were young were never just things. They were pieces of us." Which records do you remember singing along to? Which video game via Atari or Nintendo caused a callus on your thumb before we even had cell phones? Each episode, the hosts sit down along with a guest to "build the room" of their nostalgic dreams. (TheRoomWeWanted.com)
History: "The UnBelievable" -- The northern states of the U.S. have their own version of the Bermuda Triangle in the form of the Lake Michigan Triangle, and it's just one of the scary topics that gets discussed in the first episode of this podcast from the History Channel. Shipwrecks, plane crashes, disappearances and UFO sightings are also explored -- basically anything wild and weird! If you have generalized anxiety disorder, perhaps don't tune in to the recent episode about how beards can be deadly -- or how someone died after consuming too much H2O. (ART19.com)
Entrepreneurship: "Confession with Ali Partovi" -- Each week, host Ali Partovi, founder and CEO of Neo, invites tech leaders on to his podcast to discuss the stories that aren't worth bragging about -- aka the "deal that fell apart, the agonizing period of self-doubt, or the moment they hit rock bottom." Guests include Microsoft chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, who was bullied as a child and was introduced to computing before joining Microsoft in the early '90s. (Neo.com)
Sports: "Is She Game?" -- Women's college and professional sports are more popular than ever, and this new podcast serves as "a hub for the ever-expanding, culture-shapin" world of women's sports," according to its bio. Tennis legend Billie Jean King appears on the first episode, where she not only discusses her impressive achievements but also her latest book and her love for "Dancing with the Stars." Other guests include fellow podcast hosts Sydney Colson and Theresa Plaisance, who challenge Coach Jackie J in a virtual game of HORSE. (ART19.com)
