Wilkie weapons charge highlights busy week for Unity-area RCMP
A weapons charge in Wilkie and multiple probation-related incidents in Unity were among calls handled by RCMP across the detachment area in the past week.
In Wilkie, a 45-year-old man was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose after police responded to a complaint at a business. In a separate incident, a 41-year-old Wilkie man was charged with operating a vehicle while prohibited following a traffic complaint.
Unity RCMP responded to several calls involving compliance with court orders. A 23-year-old Unity man was charged with failing to comply with a probation order. Police also investigated additional reports of individuals breaching conditions, though some complaints did not result in charges due to insufficient evidence.
Officers in Unity also dealt with a Mental Health Act complaint, transporting an individual to Battlefords Union Hospital for assessment. Other calls included reports of public urination and harassing communications, both of which resulted in verbal warnings.
In Wilkie, members responded to multiple property and suspicious activity complaints, including a reported break and enter at a business and an attempted break and enter in Landis, both of which lacked sufficient evidence to proceed. Police also investigated reports of abandoned vehicles, one of which was towed as a traffic hazard, while another remains under investigation.
A report of a vehicle taken without consent in Wilkie was resolved after police located the vehicle and returned it to the owner. The complainant requested no further action.
Macklin RCMP reported several traffic-related incidents, including a single-vehicle rollover near Evesham and collisions involving wildlife on Highways 14 and 17. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents. A 46-year-old Macklin man was also charged with operating a vehicle while prohibited following a traffic stop.
Police in Macklin are continuing to investigate a report of fuel theft from a local gas station.
Across the detachment area, officers also responded to several traffic complaints, suspicious persons and false 911 calls.
