Two charged in Swift Current rural shooting

SWIFT CURRENT - Two men are facing multiple charges after a shooting at a rural property northwest of Swift Current earlier this week, RCMP say.

Swift Current Rural RCMP responded around 5 a.m. on April 13 to a report of a firearm discharge. Investigation determined an altercation occurred among individuals known to one another. During the incident, firearms were discharged and one person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

In an update issued April 15, RCMP said 49-year-old Kevin Larson of Swift Current is charged with discharge of a firearm with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Thirty-year-old Austin Hill of Swift Current is charged with discharge of a firearm with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, and two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to an order.

Both men were remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear in Swift Current provincial court on April 22.

A third person arrested in connection with the investigation has been released without charge.

RCMP continue to investigate.
