Scotty hunts new prey in an exhibit at the T.rex Discovery Centre.

The centre, "home of Scotty, the world's largest T. rex," opened in mid-May, and visitors may see other new attractions this season, a Royal Saskatchewan Museum statement said.

Scotty now hunts two new life-size Thescelosaurus replicas in the Cretaceous gallery. Thescelosaurus (Thescelosaurus assiniboiensis, or "wondrous lizard from the district of Assiniboia") were relatively common in that area during the late Cretaceous period, about 76-66 million years ago, the statement said. The plant eaters were about a metre tall, "walked on two legs and were approximately 3.5 metres in length," the statement said.

The centre displays replicas of marine reptiles and prehistoric mammals and dinosaur fossils, and offers interactive programming, it added.

"Whether it is getting up close to Scotty or checking out the amazing exhibits and programming, there is something for visitors of all ages at the T.rex Discovery Centre," said Alana Ross, the parks, culture and sport minister, whose department operates the museum and the T.rex centre.

Later this summer, a new, interactive Paleo Racers exhibit will let visitors test their running skills against a T. rex, a Thescelosaurus or a brontothere on a nine-metre-long track.

The centre is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Labour Day.
