Rain doesn't dampen Leader marketplace fundraiser

LEADER – Sandhills Credit Union Marketplace at Leader was buzzing with activity Thursday evening, September 10. The rainy day couldn't keep the hungry crowd away as families lined up for food, armed with umbrellas and rain jackets while scattered showers occurred throughout the evening. Local artists had their crafts available to purchase and there were plenty of fun games for the kids. The cloudy skies didn't stop everyone from visiting and playing games outdoors.

The Leader Lions were serving a delicious fundraising supper consisting of corn and hotdogs, and treats were provided by the Homes for El Salvador group. Both groups provide valuable services.
The Leader Lions Club recently presented their annual scholarship cheque to recipient Hyley Schmaltz, and helped purchase and install an autism swing seat in the Leader Lions Park.
Keith Dale represented the Homes for El Salvador group at the market for their first fundraiser as they gear up to build sixteen homes in El Salvador from February 13 to 21, 2027. The group of sixteen volunteers comes from various locations in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
"Each person covers their own travel expenses and costs," he explained, so all the money they raise goes towards building homes for those families who have the greatest need. Each tiny home costs approximately $4,000. The group sold popcorn, candy bags and various desserts at the market.
