Luseland museum helps kids build wooden toys from yesteryear

Volunteers at the Luseland & District Museum helped local children recreate childhood games from past generations. On Saturday afternoon, May 2nd, kids were busy drilling holes and sanding rough edges of their wooden projects. Jean Halliday from the museum said the younger children made a simple rolling duck while the older kids made a pegs and holes game, using patterns and prepared pieces of wood. There was no cost to the kids as the parts used were obtained from scrap lumber.

"The theme at the Luseland Museum is Toys, Dolls and Games — Childhood pastimes from long ago," explained Jean. "Twenty kids made wooden toys and enjoyed playing the various games throughout the museum."

The children all went home with a game they had built themselves.

Throughout the summer months, the museum will continue to host children's activities including a doll's tea party and game competitions.
