Leader drama students captivate audience

By Joan Janzen

The curtains opened and the drama club at Leader Composite School unleashed their talent for family, friends and community members to enjoy. The cast of students from Grades 7 to 12 performed The Unusual Suspects on the evenings of Feb. 24 and 26, with desserts served following the latter performance.

Director Pamela Sifert said there was plenty of energy backstage before the show began. Daegan Klink and Katelyn Koval joined her in directing the production.

Olivia Armstrong, Morgan Dietrich, Milly Jodoin and Allegra Sifert did an outstanding job portraying four students, each with unique characteristics. Logan Duchscherer brought the character of Mr. Piddles — an angry but quirky principal — to life for the audience.

As the play progressed, the four unlikely students doubled as agents in a Mission Impossible-style scheme to expose Mr. Piddles’ incriminating files. They were supported by 14 additional cast members who helped super-size the evening’s entertainment. Together, they masterfully portrayed seniors using walkers and wheelchairs, the principal’s mother wearing curlers and face cream, partygoers, employees and shopping attendants stressed to their limits.

In the end, the mission was successful in every way. Crime was exposed, and the cast captivated the audience with their antics, humour and talent.
