Kindersley Legion steak supper sells out in centennial year

If you happened to stroll by the Kindersley Legion Hall Thursday evening, June 18, you would have detected the tantalizing aroma of barbecued beef. The aroma was coming from behind the hall where volunteers were busy barbecuing ribeye steaks in preparation for the Legion’s steak supper.
Legion member Rose Housser welcomed guests as they arrived for the sold-out Kindersley Legion steak supper on June 18. The fundraiser featured a silent auction, 50/50 draw and door prizes as the branch continues its support of veterans and community programs. PHOTO BY JOAN JANZEN.

Approximately 70 hungry guests arrived for the scrumptious meal of potatoes, vegetables, salad, dessert and, of course, steaks supplied by Kindersley Packers. Meanwhile, Legion members were bustling around in the kitchen attending to all the last-minute details, and an assortment of prizes were displayed for the silent auction.
“It was a sellout crowd, with a silent auction, 50/50 draw and everyone got a door prize!” Legion member Rose Housser reported.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion, which was officially incorporated on July 17, 1926, by an Act of Parliament. The local Legion Branch No. 57 raises funds as it continues its efforts to support local veterans and welcome new members.
“The funds raised help keep our organization serving our community,” Roger Strutt, president of Legion Branch No. 57, concluded.
