Seeds of success. Madison Ley of Kerrobert is one of five students in Canada to receive a $4,000 Maizex 4-H Canada Scholarship. Ley is studying agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan.
Ley is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan.
She was selected for her extensive 4-H involvement and leadership. Her nine years in the program included many projects, from livestock to other interests. She also held senior leadership roles and took part in many community initiatives outside 4-H.
Applicants wrote an essay on their career goals in agriculture. Ley wrote that “agriculture remains one of the most important industries in Canada, and supporting farmers in turn supports rural communities, food security, and the future.”
“I want to make an important difference to the future of Canadian agriculture through agronomy, leadership, and lifelong learning,” she wrote.
Maizex launched the scholarship program in 2026. It supports young people entering a post-secondary diploma or degree in agriculture focused on field crop production or crop science. The five awards total $20,000.
Maizex Seeds markets corn hybrids, soybean varieties, canola hybrids, forages and seed-based technologies to Canadian farmers. The company is farmer-owned and operates as a joint venture with Sollio Agriculture, launched in 2018.
