FoodMesh celebrates five years of feeding families

FoodMesh in Kindersley is celebrating five years of helping feed families in the community.

The local initiative began in July 2021 when FoodMesh Kindersley partnered with FoodMesh Canada and what was then Buy-Low Foods, now Save-On-Foods. Since then, volunteers have worked to rescue food before it reaches its best-before date and distribute it to families throughout Kindersley and the surrounding area.

Volunteers with FoodMesh in Kindersley continue to distribute rescued food to families three evenings each week. In addition, food is delivered to Dawnview Apartments every Friday afternoon, where it is sorted and shared with tenants at Evergreen Apartments. PHOTO BY JOAN JANZEN.

Over the past five years, the program has continued to grow thanks to the dedication of its volunteers and the support of local businesses and donors. Kindersley Co-op and Kindersley Ag Foods have joined the effort, along with donations from businesses, local Hutterite colonies, farmers, organizations and individuals.

Everyone at FoodMesh expressed gratitude for the community's ongoing generosity, saying it has made the program's continued success possible.
