Country style entertainment

The Medicine Hat Cowboy Poetry Association will be staging a weekend of country style entertainment on Friday and Saturday, September 26th and 27th at three Medicine Hat locations.

The organization’s 6th annual Western Music and Cowboy Poetry event will get underway with 2 free performances on the Friday, beginning at 1 p.m. at Meadowlark Village on Strachan Road, with as many as 15 performers singing their songs and telling their stories. An open mic will follow that evening at 7 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, on 8th Street SW.

The Saturday schedule begins at 12 noon at the Medicine Hat College, with an encore performance from the musicians and poets.  Admission for the afternoon show is $10.   A chuckwagon supper will be served at 5 p.m., at a cost of $20.  Advance reservations are required for the supper.

The feature presentation, which will get underway at 7 p.m., will showcase some of western Canada’s premier entertainers.  Charlie Ewing and daughter Lonnie will be first up, followed by award-winning rancher and radio host Hugh McLennan and his Spirit of the West band.  Tickets for the evening show are $25, and may be purchased in advance at Hale Hearing, in the 13th avenue Co-op, or by calling 403-529-6384.
