Canada Post carves out new jack-o’-lantern stamps

New stamps portray the jack-o’-lantern, “one of Halloween’s most enduring symbols,” a statement said.

Three versions carrying “specially designed, hand-carved characters” are available at certain post offices, the Canada Post statement said.

“For generations, jack-o’-lanterns have been a hallmark of Halloween, lighting doorsteps and windowsills with eerie grins and flickering faces,” the statement said.

Kristine Do designed the stamps from photographs by Maya Visnyei of pumpkins carved by Zac Flavelle and prop styling by Catherine Doherty. All are from Toronto.

The official first day cover bears a cancellation mark, in the shape of a jack-o’-lantern, from Smoky Lake, Alta., known as the “Pumpkin Capital of Alberta” and home to the annual Great White North Pumpkin Weigh-Off & Fair, the statement said.
