Kathy Labrecque (née Domney)
October 26, 1939 – September 28, 2026
It is with sadness that the family of Kathy Labrecque (née Domney) announces her passing on September 28, 2026 at the age of 86.
Kathy was born in Rosetown and raised in McGee, SK. After meeting at a local dance, she married the love of her life, Luc Labrecque, in 1963. Together, they started their own family farm west of Rosetown, where they were blessed with three children: Donna, Tanya and Jason.
Kathy was an amazing gardener, family organizer and wonderful cook. Amid the busyness of farm life, with a large vegetable garden and fruit trees, Mom enjoyed passing on the family traditions of making French meat pies, baking, canning and filling the deep freezers with food. Her immense love for her yard, flower pots and plants created a true oasis – she was always happiest with her hands in the dirt.
Mom loved to gather and host extended-family Christmas meals, neighbourhood card parties and campfire gatherings. Her kitchen was always open to share a coffee or a meal, regardless of the time of day. Mom’s greatest pleasure was spending time with family, grandkids, neighbours and friends. Many cherished memories were made while camping at Jackfish Lake, often with the Domneys and Labrecques.
Her creativity was evident in her many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed sewing our clothes as young kids, baby outfits for her grandkids and many Halloween costumes. Over the years, she took painting classes with Clareann, made leather gloves and parkas with Adele, decorated cakes and even took Chinese cooking lessons. She loved hours spent playing cards and games with family and neighbours.
Community was central to Kathy’s life. She was deeply involved in supporting her children’s sports, hockey and 4-H activities. Her leadership, guidance and energy enriched the Pleasant Valley 4-H Club for over 20 years in various roles, as well as the Horticultural Society, Ridpath Ladies and the Museum. Kathy also worked at the Rosetown Co-op, Co-op Garden Centre and Peggy’s Greenhouse. Creative, hardworking and deeply caring, Kathy possessed a special gift for making everyone – family, in-laws, nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends – feel truly welcome, well-fed and loved.
Following their retirement from farming, Kathy and Luc enjoyed travelling across Canada and the United States. In her last three years after Luc’s passing, Kathy found a warm new community among the staff at Orange Memories. She deeply cherished their late-night chats, family stories and quiet moments. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff for their tender care, patience and compassion.
Kathy will be deeply missed by her family: children Donna deGooijer (Ron), Tanya Labrecque (Cameron) and Jason Labrecque (Lindsay); grandchildren Kaitlin deGooijer, Nick deGooijer (Jasmine and great-grandchild Sena), Brianna deGooijer, Leah deGooijer (Ryker Doquette), Hailey Labrecque and Spencer Labrecque; siblings Elaine Schille (Warren and Ashley) and sister-in-law Norma Domney (Debbie and Brian and families); extended family of Irene Halliday, Walter and Sandra Halliday and their families.
Kathy was predeceased by her husband Luc Labrecque, parents Bill and Jean Domney, sister Shirley, brother Murray Domney and uncle Ron Halliday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 16, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Theresa’s Parish, Rosetown, SK with a gathering to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the 4-H Saskatchewan Foundation at www.4-h.sk.ca or the Alex Ositis Foundation.
