In Loving Memory of Margaret Adams
Margaret Adams was born in Lipton, Sask., on Sept. 4, 1942, to John and Kathleen McKenzie. She started school in Lipton before her family moved to Brownlee, Sask. After a few years there, they relocated to Eatonia in 1955. Margaret completed her schooling in Eatonia before taking a business course in Calgary. She then returned to Eatonia to work at the Royal Bank.
While still in school, Margaret worked for Bill Kool at the Eatonia Theatre. It was in Eatonia that she met her future husband, Grant Adams. They were married on Oct. 8, 1963, and were blessed with two children, Neil, born June 30, 1964, and Sheila, born July 18, 1967.
Having never lived on a farm before, Margaret embraced farm life with enthusiasm. She loved growing gardens and flowers and even learned how to butcher chickens.
Margaret began working at the Eatonia Co-op Hardware in December 1979, where she worked alongside her good friend Dick Adams for 11 years. She later worked for Laurie Adams at the Eatonia Co-op Grocery Store for six years before retiring.
On Dec. 24, 1993, Margaret's grandson Blake was born. She was immensely proud to become a grandmother and was the first person to hold him.
Margaret was known by several nicknames throughout her life. At school she was called "Giggles." Dick Adams affectionately called her "Margo" or "Maggy." During a camping trip to South Dakota, he nicknamed her "Aunt Jemima" after she emerged from the shower with a towel wrapped around her head. At a birthday party, he started calling her "Gus," a nickname that stayed with her for many years.
In 1987, Margaret and Grant made their first trip to Cypress Hills. It marked the beginning of many camping and sightseeing adventures there. Eventually they began staying at the Resort at Cypress Hills, where they made many friends and got to know the owners well. Margaret treasured the peace and beauty of the Hills.
She also loved visiting the Cypress Hills Winery, where she enjoyed sampling wine. Grant was grateful they spent so much time together there, as Cypress Hills became like a second home to them.
Music was another of Margaret's passions. She loved tapping her feet to the beat and sang in the Eatonia choir for several years. She once tried learning to play her father's accordion but gave up because her dog would howl whenever she practiced.
Margaret developed dementia and became a resident of the Eston Jubilee Lodge in October 2019. She passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents, John and Kathleen McKenzie; her parents-in-law, Joe and Ella Adams; and her brother-in-law, Martin Adams.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Grant; her children, Neil (Shelley) and Sheila (Daren); her grandchildren, Blake, Austin and Sydney; and her sisters, Cathy and Evelyn.
