Darryl Paul Senecal

May 3, 1945 – October 26, 2026

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Darryl Paul Senecal of Rosetown, Saskatchewan on October 26th, 2026. He was 81 years old.

Darryl was born on May 3rd, 1945. He was born in Milden, Saskatchewan to Paul & Elaine (Gillies) Senecal. The first of five wonderful children, the family remained very close throughout their entire lives. Darryl and his siblings grew up in Rosetown and spent summers on the farm outside of town that is still the family farm to this day.

He went to primary school in Rosetown, Saskatchewan and Campion College in Regina before attending the University of Saskatchewan in 1965. Darryl enjoyed anthropology and philosophy the most out of all his classes. However, for practical reasons he decided to complete a degree in education. Darryl made many lifelong friends at university. He had many adventures and travelled across Canada and the United States before returning to Rosetown in the 1970s to teach and to farm with his brother, Jack.

In 1982, Darryl married Laureen Susan King on January 23rd in Saskatoon. They settled in Rosetown and had one daughter, Elizabeth Ashley Laureen Senecal, in 1983.

Darryl farmed to provide for his family, and in 1991 he was elected to the R.M. of Saint Andrews as councillor for Division 3. His father also served prior to him in this position. Darryl served on the R.M. of Saint Andrews from 1991 to 2012, representing his rural community with pride. While on the R.M., he was also elected to the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) board in 2006, as well as the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Association (SAMA) board, where he worked to challenge taxation rates within his constituency. He made many friends throughout his political career, and he loved every minute of it.

Darryl enjoyed Blue Jays baseball, Notre Dame football and participated in the hockey draft with friends. He curled in his younger years, attending many bonspiels in his time. Darryl was an avid gardener. He built a beautiful archway in the backyard and a rock wall flower bed from rocks picked on the farm. Often he would wake up early to check the number of morning glories he had each day. He also liked to cook, and once he retired he enjoyed making his famous tourtière each Christmas for his nearest and dearest. Darryl loved nothing more than a good debate over a glass of wine with friends and family.

Darryl is lovingly remembered by his wife, Laureen, his daughter Elizabeth Senecal (Aaron Oberg), sisters Marilyn (Hugh) Kerley, Mary-Pat (John) Will and brother Jack (Allyson) Senecal. He is also remembered by nieces Jolaine Kerley (Dustin Mahoney), Alicia (Peter) Fenton, Elaine Will (Mark Allard) and Adriana (Aaron) Kelly, nephews Trevor Senecal and Brandon (Rebecca) Senecal, as well as many cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, numerous friends and colleagues. Darryl is predeceased by his father, Paul Senecal, his mother, Elaine Senecal and his brother Randy Senecal.

A celebration of life will be held for Darryl Senecal at the Elk’s Hall in Rosetown, Saskatchewan on Tuesday, November 24th, 2026 at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend to show respect and share stories of his life and celebrate his memory.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Daniel Ledding for his care for Darryl in his final days, as well as the entire Rosetown Hospital staff. We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rosetown & District Hospital Foundation in his name. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Shanidar Funeral Services.
