Brian Charles Charteris

1933 - 2026

93 years old

In loving memory of Brian Charles Charteris.

It is with deep sadness that the family of Brian Charteris announce his passing at the Unity Healthcare Facility on May 9, 2026 at the age of 93. Brian was the youngest of five children and was predeceased by his parents, James and Eva Charteris, siblings Vivian  (and Morris Close), and his brothers’ Terry (and Lydia Charteris), Keith (and Doreen Charteris), Bob (and Marge Charteris).

Brian was born into a robust farming and cattle family who homesteaded in the Tramping Lake/Dodsland area and he worked in many different jobs before buying land. He worked as an electrician, a plumber, a pipefitter, he drove a school bus, and he took on many different jobs because he loved to work with his hands.  Brian was a handyman “extraordinaire” as he could fix almost anything and he was the last electrician to leave the completed work at the Mendel Arts Gallery in Saskatoon.

Brian went on hunting and fishing trips with his friends every year and on these trips he would cut down our yearly Christmas tree which was lovingly decorated by the family.

Brian met his first wife Mary McClement, a traveling nurse from Scotland and they were married in December, 1962.  He loved seeing his grandchildren and taking them for quad rides on the farm and he fixed up an old motorcycle for his grandson to ride on one of his visits to Canada.  His children have fond memories of driving the tractor around the farm, hauling grain with him, fishing for Jackfish at Tramping Lake, snowmobiling, picking berries, and picnics to the Saskatchewan River in the summer with their dad.

Brian is survived by his first wife Mary McClement, second wife Mardel Hompoth, his three loving children, Elaine Charteris (and her two children, Janel and Nate Charteris), Sheena Bartsch (and her daughter Alexis), and Derek Charteris (and wife Parichat “Amy” Charteris).

There will be no funeral service but a memorial and scattering of ashes in the coolies overlooking Tramping Lake Park where he grew up and played as a child and where his family spent every weekend.  This will take place October 4, 2026 in the fall (weather permitting).  In lieu of sending flowers please consider planting a tree in his memory.
