KINDERSLEY – The Town of Kindersley council decided to keep two tax title properties for the municipality on the advice of its staff. The resolution was passed at the Sept. 28 regular meeting of council.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Marty Baroni reported to councillors that due to the recent tax title tenders which the town has handled, he spent time examining the properties in this category. "After a complete review of our tax title properties, two specific properties are currently in use by the town or will be in the future," stated Baroni's report to council.

The CAO's report noted that the two properties included 407 1st Ave. West and a portion of SE 9-29-23, this parcel described several times in the discussion as the land surrounding the new RCMP building.

"It is the recommendation of administration to cancel the outstanding municipal taxes owing on these two properties, pay the outstanding school taxes and move these two properties to the town's land inventory," stated Baroni's report.

It was noted 407 1st Ave. West had an unpaid property tax amount of $3,568.90 linked to it while the land surrounding the RCMP building had an unpaid property tax bill of $93.81; it was further noted that the unpaid debt owed to the school division from both properties added up to a total of $2,909.54.

It was noted in the staff report that the authority under which the decision was being made was the Tax Enforcement Act.

As councillors discussed the issue, Baroni expanded on the property located at 407 1st Ave. West by explaining this parcel featured a building some years ago which since has been demolished. Baroni stated the Public Works department has utilized the property ever since.

Baroni further observed that, by taking the property into municipal inventory, the way in which the town is using those lands is accurately presented.

Councillors unanimously passed a resolution that the Town of Kindersley cancel a total of $3,662.71 in outstanding property taxes on the parcels in question, pay a total of $2,909.54 to the school board as outstanding school taxes on the parcels in question and move the parcels in question into the town's inventory.
