The Garden Bug: White Pumpkins
By Brenda Weaver
Both white and orange pumpkins are members of the Cucurbita family, which includes winter and summer squash, cucumbers, and melons.
White pumpkin varieties such as "Lumina," "Snowball" and "Casper" were developed about 40 years ago using albino pumpkin seeds. They tend to be smaller and more "round" than other pumpkin varieties.
"Lumina" are the most popular for carving and making decorative displays for the fall holidays.
