The Garden Bug: Milk Thistle
By Brenda Weaver
Its purple flowers may seem pretty, but this spiny plant is classified as a noxious weed in several U.S. states, and has the potential to overwhelm established ecosystems and agricultural areas.
Though it can be very difficult, it is possible to remove these deep-rooted weeds by wearing very thick gloves and pulling or digging them out before they are well-established. They can also be killed with vinegar or boiling water. Just be careful not to splash any nearby plants that you want to keep.
