Pipeline Online: Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show highlighted innovation and growth

The Government of Saskatchewan participated in the Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show on September 16 and 17, one of Canada’s premier energy conferences and an important showcase of the role heavy oil development plays in Saskatchewan’s economy.
Held every two years, the event brought together industry leaders from across Western Canada to exchange knowledge, explore emerging technologies and showcase innovations shaping the future of energy development.
The Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show also highlighted the contribution of heavy oil development to Saskatchewan’s economy and its role in attracting investment and supporting growth.
“Saskatchewan’s oil and gas sector creates thousands of jobs, generates significant investment and reliably provides the energy the world needs,” Energy and Resources Minister Chris Beaudry said. “The Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show is an opportunity to celebrate the people and companies whose innovation and hard work have made northwest Saskatchewan a leader in heavy oil production. Our government remains committed to supporting the growth of oil production through responsible resource development in Saskatchewan’s energy sector.”
Continued technological advancements, improved recovery methods and industry investment have helped producers enhance efficiency and maximize the value of Saskatchewan’s heavy oil resources in northwest Saskatchewan.
Several new projects in the area are expected to come into full production over the next several years, contributing to continued heavy oil development in the province.
The oil and gas sector remains a significant part of Saskatchewan’s economy. According to the provincial government, more than 25,000 people are employed in the sector, while the value of oil and gas production reached $11.5 billion last year.
The sector also generates royalty revenue that helps fund public services and infrastructure across Saskatchewan.
The province has pointed to Saskatchewan’s abundant resources, skilled workforce, regulatory environment and royalty programs as factors in attracting energy-sector investment.
The Government of Saskatchewan also recognized the contributions made by the oil and gas industry to communities throughout the province during this year’s Heavy Oil Show.
