Nancy Kelley tops $12,500 at Parkinson SuperWalk

Nancy Kelley has been participating in the Parkinson Canada SuperWalk in Saskatoon ever since it began 21 years ago.

“I have been involved with SuperWalk since I was diagnosed in 2005 and have been the top fundraiser in the province since 2014, raising over $10,000 a year,” Nancy explained.

This year Nancy said the funds raised amounted to $12,500 and are still climbing. She originally set a goal of $5,000 online. However, many people also contact her personally to submit their donations.

“I’m very thankful for the support that I have,” Nancy said. “We have to find a cure for the younger generation.” That is the motivation which has kept Nancy participating for over two decades. However, she’s not alone.

Her crew of 10 family members and friends participated with the group of 150 individuals who met at the Royal Canadian Legion branch on Spadina Crescent and walked for approximately 40 minutes.

“It was a beautiful day for a walk. We never had that good weather ever,” she said. In spite of rain and windy days on Saturday and Monday, Sunday was a beautiful, warm, sunny day for the walk.

“It’s a good way to encourage people to support people with Parkinson’s. Education and advocacy are important,” she noted. “Thank you for your generous donations, encouragement and continued support year after year.”

Every contribution helps fund research, support those living with Parkinson’s and bring us closer to better treatments and a cure, Nancy added.
