Fun Fact: Woodcuts
Irving Amen's "Piazza San Marco" (1954) Woodcuts are the oldest form of printmaking. The artist carves a design into a wooden block, and the raised areas that remain are inked and pressed against paper. The parts that remain blank in the final print are where the wood was cut away.
