Answers

1. The Three Degrees, in 1974. The group didn't want to release the song, thinking it was too simple, but the song ended up in the top 10 in the U.S., South Africa, Canada, Belgium, Australia and Ireland.

2. The Weavers, in 1950. But it was the version by Peter, Paul and Mary that was the most popular in 1963, winning two Grammy awards.

3. Steve Lawrence, in 1961. The song spent 16 weeks on the charts.

4. The Beach Boys, in 1966.

5. "Four Walls," by Jim Reeves in 1957. Reeves had to push the record company to let him release the song because they thought it was more appropriate for a female, but he was right: His version topped the charts.
