Celebrity Extra: Henry Cavill and The Witcher

By Dana Jackson

Q: Is "The Witcher" coming back for another season, and if so, will Henry Cavill ever be back? -- P.T.

A: Yes, the fifth season of the Netflix series "The Witcher" will be back in 2027, but it's slated to be its final one. Henry Cavill starred as Geralt of Rivia for three seasons before choosing to leave the series (reportedly over creative differences).

According to several sources, including TV Insider, Cavill was a big fan of the books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and didn't like the direction in which the TV series was going. Others have speculated that he was interested in playing Superman again, but DC cast actor David Corenswet instead in 2025's "Superman" movie.

Liam Hemsworth of "The Hunger Games" franchise was subsequently chosen to carry Geralt's sword and will resume the role in the final season as well.

Q: Is there going to be another "Monster" miniseries from Ryan Murphy? If so, what true-crime story is he going to tell next? -- U.G.

A: The very prolific showrunner Ryan Murphy is adept at juggling multiple series at once, and his "Monster" anthology is among them. Season one was "Dahmer," which starred Evan Peters, one of his talented muses. He followed this up with "The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story" in 2024 with Javier Bardem. Then Charlie Hunnam was nominated for an Emmy for his turn as the lead monster in "The Ed Gein Story."

The fourth season of "Monster" will feature his first female lead of this particular series. Ella Beatty (daughter of Oscar winners Warren Beatty and Annette Benning) has been cast in the titular role of "The Lizzie Borden Story." Ella isn't new to the world of Ryan Murphy. She played Kelly O'Shea in season two of "Feud," and she had a role in the critically acclaimed film "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You," which came out last year.

Also appearing in "The Lizzie Borden Story" are other Murphy alum like the above-mentioned Hunnam, Rebecca Hall ("The Beauty"), and Billie Lourd ("American Horror Story"). Look for the latest installment of "Monster" to debut on Netflix on Sept. 17.

Q: What ever happened to actor Thomas Gibson of "Dharma & Greg"? I haven't seen him in anything in ages. -- K.D.

A: After a successful five-season run on the hit ABC sitcom "Dharma & Greg," Thomas Gibson eventually landed on an even bigger hit with CBS's "Criminal Minds." He played FBI unit chief Aaron Hotchner on this series for 11 seasons, but he was unfortunately fired after a physical altercation with one of the writer-producers. It's been 10 years since his departure, and he hasn't been seen in primetime television since, choosing instead to return to his theater roots (he studied at Juilliard) and independent films.

Gibson's former co-star (the Dharma to his Greg) Jenna Elfman will be facing her own set of dangerous criminals in the upcoming Fox series "The Interrogator," which co-stars Stephen Fry ("The Dropout"), Charlotte McKee ("Terrifier 3"), and Michael Beach ("Tulsa King").
