Young Burrowing Owl takes flight

A young Burrowing Owl takes flight over Saskatchewan grasslands. From mid-July through August, fledgling owls are learning to fly and hunt, often foraging near roads where insects and rodents gather. With an estimated Canadian population of just 270 breeding Burrowing Owls, Nature Saskatchewan is urging motorists to slow down and watch for the endangered, low-flying birds.
