Unity woman faces stolen property charges after RCMP investigation

UNITY — RCMP in Unity, Wilkie and Macklin responded to a variety of calls over the past week, including stolen property investigations, assaults, traffic incidents and mental health concerns.

In Unity, RCMP investigated a single-vehicle traffic collision and responded to a complaint of individuals banging on a residence window, although the subjects had left before police arrived. Members also acted as mediators in a family dispute and conducted a wellbeing check at the request of a family member.

Police also received a found wallet, which was returned to its owner, while another individual relinquished a firearm to RCMP for destruction. Officers additionally handled two traffic complaints and two false alarms.

In Wilkie, a 25-year-old woman from Wilkie was charged with trafficking in property obtained by crime and possession of property obtained by crime after police received a report of an individual in possession of stolen property.

RCMP also charged a 22-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman, both from Wilkie, with assault following a complaint.

Members received three complaints of dogs running loose in the Town of Wilkie and referred the matters to the bylaw officer. Police also responded to a Mental Health Act complaint and transported the individual to Battlefords Union Hospital for assessment.

Other calls in Wilkie included a suspicious person complaint, an unwanted person complaint that remains under investigation, a report of a break and enter that was determined to be unfounded, and a report of a business door blown off its hinges during high winds.

A 30-day roadside suspension was also issued during a traffic stop, while officers assisted an individual walking on the highway north of Wilkie by transporting them to a nearby community.

In Macklin, RCMP received a report of an abandoned vehicle north of town. The vehicle was not stolen and the property representative was advised it could be towed.

Police also responded to a complaint of an intoxicated individual in public. Members spoke with the person and issued a verbal warning.
