Town of Leader welcomes newly elected councillor

LEADER— The Town of Leader welcomed a new councillor to the council table following a recent byelection, with councillors updating board and committee appointments at their regular meeting on July 7.

In a phone interview with Your West Central Voice on July 17, Town of Leader Chief Administrative Officer Erin Romanuik said one of the meeting's agenda items was reviewing board and committee assignments for newly elected Coun. Dave Cunningham.

Council passed a resolution approving the revised committee appointments.

Cunningham was elected in a June 24 byelection, defeating Cari Wilkinson by a vote of 102 to 52.

According to the returning officer's report, 154 ballots were cast in the election, with one spoiled ballot.

Council also reviewed the town's annual waterworks report.

Romanuik said the report outlines the municipality's water infrastructure, including revenues and expenses, whether the utility is operating on a self-sustaining basis and upcoming capital projects.

She said council's goal, like many municipalities, is for the water system to operate without requiring subsidies from property taxes.

Council approved the waterworks report by resolution. It will be available to the public on the Town of Leader's website.

Romanuik also presented her regular administration report, which included the town's 2025 audited financial statements.

Council approved the audited financial statements, with Romanuik noting there were no issues identified. She added the statements were reviewed later than usual because June's regular council meeting had been cancelled.

Leader town council's next regular meeting is scheduled for July 21.
