LEADER – The Town of Leader council had a busy agenda booked with visiting delegations at their Oct. 6 regular meeting.
In a phone call with Your West Central Voice Oct. 14, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Erin Romanuik stated town council heard a number of delegations that night about a variety of subjects.
The first delegation was non-commissioned officer in charge of the Leader RCMP detachment Sgt. Don Kyllo; Romanuik related that Sgt. Kyllo was providing his regular update to council. Kyllo stated several big cases are going on in the Leader area right now and it was noted councillors had no concerns to forward to police.
The second delegation was Lee Elsasser representing the Happyland Thrift Store, a local non-profit society; Elsasser noted that the store returns all profits it makes back into the community and proposed using such profits to develop an events area in Lions Park. Romanuik stated the event areas would possibly include a concrete pad and tent. Romanuik stated councillors received the idea very well and passed a resolution approving it.
The third delegation, stated the CAO, was a group of representatives from the Leader walking trail organization. The walking trail people provided councillors with an update on the project’s status, including the fact construction of the trails themselves is nearing completion. The reps asked council to consider approving further work including benches and garbage bins. Councillors passed a resolution approving the funds for trail lighting, signage installation and concrete pads for benches.
The fourth delegation of the evening was contractor DB Carpentry, who the CAO noted was the outfit that carried out sidewalk replacement and rehab for the town this past summer. The CAO noted the contractor wished to thank council for the contract and also wanted to let the town know that if DB Carpentry was to be hired for 2027 work as well the company would need a list of replacement sites by February of next year.
Councillors also authorized staff to proceed with improvements at the waste transfer site. Romanuik noted improvements include construction work to improve the access ramp and improve drainage, plus remove a pile of roofing shingles.
