The Town of Kindersley council approved an advertisement that will begin the process of closing an alley right-of-way (ROW) and adding it to a nearby municipal parcel. The advertisement was approved at the May 25 regular meeting of council. Submitted
Councillors heard a report from Director of Infrastructure and Development Chad Levitt who advised staff wished council to examine and approve an advertisement notifying the public of the proposed closure of an alleyway with the land description St/L13-Plan G743 Ext 0, which was further described by staff as a back laneway lying between 408 Railway Ave. West and 401 1st Ave. West.
During his verbal presentation Levitt stated that after the Town of Kindersley purchased the former R.M. shop and land it became clear the town now owned all of the land on the 400 block between Third St. West and Fourth St. West.
Staff felt that to use the land more efficiently, explained Levitt, they were proposing to close the alley ROW and consolidate all of it into the main title and create a single operations yard.
Levitt noted the yard would store equipment, materials and supplies for both Public Works and the Parks department.
Staff observed during the meeting the proposed closure would be handled according to the town's public notice bylaw.
According to the draft advertisement presented at the meeting the required public hearing would be held during the regular council meeting scheduled June 15 and the public would have a chance to either speak or submit written comments.
During discussion councillors noted the yard in question looks like a very good acquisition by the town with attractive new fencing and a very spacious appearance. Councillors noted town staff who work in the yard must be very happy with it, and added that this large, open area is what the town had in mind when working with the R.M. on this deal.
Councillors approved the proposed advertisement for the ROW closure and set the public hearing date as advised.
