Town of Kindersley council accepts almost $700,000 for tax enforcement lots

KINDERSLEY – The Town of Kindersley council accepted tenders for several parcels of land available through tax enforcement. The resolution to accept tenders was passed at the Sept. 14 regular meeting of council.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Marty Baroni presented councillors with the results of the publicly advertised details for six parcels of land the municipality was making available through tax enforcement; that is, the parcels were being sold to recover unpaid property taxes. Baroni observed during discussion the offer period for these parcels closed on Sept. 9.

Baroni stated the town received offers for three of the six parcels, and one of the parcels received two offers.

Mayor Ken Francis pointed out during discussion councillors agreed to accept the highest offer for each of those three parcels.

The CAO informed councillors that of the offers received, two were tenders and one a buyback option from a previous owner. The CAO further noted that the Town of Kindersley fulfilled all requirements of the Tax Enforcement Act in this process.

It was noted that councillors accepted an offer of $620,000 for 108 12th Ave. East (Lot 3, Block 2, Plan G776 Ext0, a commercial hotel), an offer of $25,000 for 206 and 208 1st Ave. West (Lots 4 and 5, Block 5, Plan G9 Ext0, a residential dwelling) and an offer of $17,700 for 419 2nd Ave. West (Lot 21, Block 43, Plan 79S42101 Ext0, a residential lot); the third property actually received two offers.

The parcels that didn’t receive offers included 204 1st Ave. West (a residential lot), 109 Main Street (a commercial lot) and 109 1st Ave. East (a commercial building).

It was noted that the three properties that didn’t receive offers will remain in the tax enforcement process.

Councillors unanimously passed a resolution to accept the highest offers made on the three properties presented.
