KINDERSLEY – The Town of Kindersley council accepted a $20,000 offer for a lot with municipal taxes owing after the lot didn’t attract a tender. The resolution to accept the offer was made at the Oct. 26 regular meeting of council.
Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Marty Baroni updated councillors on the fate of one lot that recently went through the tax title property process but didn’t receive any tenders, 109 1st Ave. E., which is a commercial property.
Baroni observed that the Town of Kindersley recently had six properties up for tender through the tax title process and three of them sold after councillors accepted the tenders. However, three of the properties didn’t receive any tenders and remain within the tax title process.
The parcels that didn’t receive offers included 204 1st Ave. W. (a residential lot), 109 Main Street (a commercial lot) and 109 1st Ave. E. (a commercial building).
Baroni stated that after the tender process ended the town received an offer for one of the remaining lots, described at the meeting as Lot 12 Block 2 Plan G9 Ext 0, which is 109 1st Ave. E.
Baroni advised that it was up to council to accept or decline the offer.
The CAO did observe, however, that the offer was for $20,000. He related that the unpaid property taxes on that lot were just over $14,000, while the unpaid provincial education tax on the lot was just over $2,300.
The lot in question is 33 feet by 125 feet and had hosted a salon in the past.
Mayor Ken Francis stated that the Town of Kindersley had been back and forth on this property but that it appeared with this offer the municipality “…landed in a good spot.”
Councillors unanimously passed a resolution to accept the offer of $20,000 for 109 1st Ave. E. and to cancel just over $14,000 of unpaid property taxes and just over $2,300 in unpaid school tax.
