Stamina is the force that drives these drummers

By Joan Janzen

KINDERSLEY — Kindersley resident Helen Barclay and her friends have been drumming for a long time.

According to a Dec. 31, 2001 West-Central Crossroads article, Barclay formed a drum circle three years earlier after purchasing a collection of drums. Shakers, a marimba and a steel drum were later added to the group’s repertoire.

What began as a stress reliever — a chance to visit with friends and enjoy a fun activity — wasn’t intended for the public stage. Performances were limited to the occasional birthday party or small group.

More than two decades later, that rhythm hasn’t slowed.

As 2025 comes to a close, Barclay and her fellow drummers continue to play together and entertain audiences throughout the year.
