Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame elects Kindersley baseball legend as president

BATTLEFORD—A man with deep roots in Kindersley is taking the helm of the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum Association Inc. Earl W. Berard S.V.M. was elected president at the organization's annual meeting in April 2026.

Berard's most significant chapter in Saskatchewan baseball was written right in Kindersley. In 1982, while living there, he championed a bid to bring the 18U World Youth Baseball Championship to Canada. It worked. The tournament came to Berard Field in Kindersley in 1984, complete with a Snow Birds flyover at the opening ceremony.

Seven years later, Berard led Team Canada as Chef de Mission at the 18U World Championship. The team won gold -- the only time Canada has claimed that title in 35 years. The medal and team display are now permanently housed at the Battleford museum.

His resume speaks for itself. President of Saskatchewan Baseball from 1983 to 1984. President of Western Canada Baseball from 1986 to 1988. Vice President of Baseball Canada from 1990 to 1991. He started pitching at age 12 and didn't stop until 50.

As president, Berard says the museum will continue expanding its collection and welcoming visitors from across the province. The facility also houses the largest bat in Canada.

Tours can be booked through the museum in Battleford.
