RCMP warn of email scam threatening arrest
Saskatchewan RCMP are warning residents about an email scam circulating in the province.
The email claims to be from the RCMP and tells recipients they are the subject of a cybercrime investigation. It threatens arrest unless the recipient contacts investigators at carcmpgrca@gmail.com.
Police say the email is a scam. It and other police-related scams are outlined on the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s website at antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.
RCMP advise anyone who receives a suspicious email not to reply, click any links, or send personal information, money or gift cards.
Anyone unsure whether an email that appears to come from the RCMP is legitimate, or who believes they are the victim of a fraud, should contact their local RCMP detachment at 310-RCMP. Suspected scam or fraudulent emails can be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre toll-free at 1-888-495-8501 or online at antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.
