RCMP closes investigation into Lumsden crash

LUMSDEN – Saskatchewan RCMP has completed its investigation into the July 18 crash on Highway 11 that killed Saskatchewan Roughriders captain Jayden Dalke and Regina resident Bhishma Rajyaguru.

In a final update issued Oct. 15, RCMP said its collision reconstruction confirmed the key details released in the days after the crash. A silver SUV was travelling northbound in the southbound lane when it collided with a black SUV. Officers found alcohol and cannabis in the silver SUV. None was found in the black SUV.

In July, RCMP identified Dalke, 30, of Leduc, Alta., as the driver of the silver SUV. Rajyaguru, 22, was driving the black SUV.

Toxicology results will not be made public. The Saskatchewan Coroners Service considers them personal health information and has told RCMP it will not release them.

There will be no court process because both men died. RCMP said further disclosure will be limited. Its information management team advised that personal information in the file would not be released through an Access to Information Act request. Police still recommend that route for anyone seeking a reconstruction report in cases where court will never occur.

“Investigators will never have the opportunity to speak with either vehicle occupant to find out what happened on July 18,” the RCMP said.

The force asked the public to remember the families, witnesses and first responders connected to every investigation, and to be kind in their conversations, including online.

Dalke signed with the Roughriders in May 2022 and was part of the team’s 2025 Grey Cup championship. Before its July 23 game against the Edmonton Elks, the club honoured both men, including a tribute to Rajyaguru’s love of music and his ties to Regina’s Indian community.
