Merry Christmas from Kindersley FoodMesh

By Joan Janzen

Kindersley FoodMesh wants to wish everyone a very blessed and Merry Christmas season. The FoodMesh program is possible because of the regular donations of food from Save-On-Foods, as well as from Kindersley Co-op Food Store and Family Foods. So many contributions throughout the year have been received from our community and many others, whether it’s donations of meat, garden produce, or financial contributions. Even the pets haven’t been forgotten, as Pet Valu regularly donates pet food. And as the cold weather approached, the Cozy Up and Care campaign collected winter clothing, which was distributed at FoodMesh.

These are just a few of the volunteers who help out at Kindersley FoodMesh on a regular basis. Three days a week, Kindersley FoodMesh volunteers pick up, sort, and distribute food that has been received from Save-On-Foods, Kindersley Co-op, Family Foods, and many other individuals and organizations. Thanks to all the families who continue to show up, proving that the work we do is needed and appreciated. SUBMITTED

Special thanks to the volunteers who keep the wheels turning on a weekly basis so people in need of groceries can shop for free each and every week. Three times a week, volunteers head over to Save-On-Foods to pick up food that is approaching its best-before date. A typical pick-up would amount to 250 kg or more of food, which is delivered to the Kindersley Christian Fellowship kitchen, where it is sorted, packaged, and packed into boxes on days when afternoon deliveries are made.

In the evenings, more volunteers help out during distribution, which takes place on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings. Once again, food is sorted and arranged on counters so people can conveniently do their shopping. On average, 100 families pick up groceries in a week.

On Fridays, more volunteers pick up the food at Save-On-Foods and deliver it to Dawnview Apartments, where residents volunteer to sort and package the food for the residents. Food is also delivered to residents at Evergreen Apartments.

Kindersley Co-op generously donates dairy products approaching their best-before date. Each week, volunteers pick up an average of 12 cases of dairy from the Co-op Food Store.

Donations of food and monetary contributions are always welcome. E-transfers can be made to bookkeeping@kcfhope.com, directed specifically to FoodMesh.

And last but not least, thanks to all the clients who continue to show up regardless of weather, proving that the work we do is needed and appreciated in our community. Kindersley FoodMesh looks forward to another year of serving our community in 2026.
