Kindersley water tower drained for interior relining

KINDERSLEY – The Town of Kindersley began relining and rehabilitating the interior of its water tower on Aug. 26.
Ahead of the work, the tower's water level was drawn down naturally through normal town usage until the tower no longer supplied pressure to the distribution system. Distribution pumps at the Water Treatment Plant took over that job. The water left in the tower was emptied through a release valve at the base and drained overland to the nearest storm water catch basin.

The town moved to Level 1 water restrictions for the duration of the project. Level 1 is the lowest of the town's restriction levels.
All systems were fully tested and contingency procedures were put in place before the tower was taken out of service, the town said. Officials described the restrictions as a precaution to keep water storage sufficient in the event of a water main break or an emergency firefighting call.
Under Level 1, all outdoor water use is prohibited. That includes washing cars, sidewalks, pads and building exteriors, and recreational use of sprinklers and water toys.
Lawn watering is the exception, and it runs on an odd and even schedule based on the last number of your address.
Odd numbered addresses may water Thursday and Sunday, from 6 to 8 a.m. and from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Odd numbered addresses using timers may run their systems from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on those days.
Even numbered addresses may water Wednesday and Saturday during the same hours, with timer systems permitted from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on those days.
Flowerbeds and vegetable gardens may be watered by hand at any time using a watering can or a hose with a trigger shut off nozzle. Children's pools with a capacity of 1,000 litres or less may be used.
Commercial and industrial operations on metered irrigation systems can request site specific scheduling from the Town.
