Kindersley had daily passenger train service in the 1950s

Ron Lamont is a former long-time Kindersley resident who worked on the railroad. He shared a photo of Passenger Train No. 10 sitting in the Kindersley CNR yard back in the early 1950s. At that time, steam engines also picked up some coaches for Saskatoon.

Kindersley had daily passenger train service to and from Saskatoon and Calgary. The No. 9 and No. 10 trains both had sleeping and dining cars beside the coaches. The train would leave for Saskatoon early in the morning, and a return train would bring the passengers back at 9:30 p.m. This gave passengers all day to shop or do business in the city.

Since there were no buses, few cars and poor roads, this service was certainly used and depended on by Kindersley residents. An advertisement in the Kindersley Clarion Golden Jubilee issue, May 12, 1955, advertised a real bargain: a return ticket to Calgary cost $10.60.
