Kindersley gears up for full day of Canada Day celebrations

Residents and visitors are invited to celebrate Canada Day in Kindersley with a full day of family-friendly activities on Wednesday, July 1, beginning with breakfast at the Kindersley & District Plains Museum and ending with fireworks at dusk.

The celebration is presented through a partnership between the Town of Kindersley, the Kindersley & District Plains Museum and Better Together, with support from numerous community organizations and local sponsors.

The festivities begin at the museum, where admission is by donation from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 57 will host a pancake and sausage breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m., with proceeds supporting the local Legion.

The official Colour Guard ceremony and flag raising will take place at 11 a.m. Following the ceremony, everyone is invited to enjoy free cake and cupcakes courtesy of the Town of Kindersley, a free barbecue sponsored by the Kindersley & District Co-op, and free ice cream sponsored by the Kindersley Masonic Lodge.

Throughout the morning and early afternoon, families can enjoy a variety of activities including music by Superb Sound & Friends, face painting and glitter tattoos, giant Jenga and giant Connect 4, bocce ball, ladder ball, carnival games, balloon and caricature artists, bubbles, a 360 photo booth, horse and wagon rides, three-legged races, potato sack races, relay races, a petting zoo, sucker pull contests and prizes.

The celebration continues at Rotary Park from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission for games and activities is $5 per child (ages five and older) or $10 per family of two or more people.

Food vendors will include Out of Africa Deli and Sweets, Filipino Cuisine by Glen's Kitchen, Bombshell Burgers and Bombshell Sweet Treats.

Sponsored by the Kindersley Fire Department, visitors can cool off with a dunk tank, Slip 'N Slide and water games.

The afternoon will feature an obstacle course, giant slide, gladiator jousting, foam pit, knocker balls, barrel train rides sponsored by Pattison Agriculture, pedal bike races, large inflatable bouncy castles, barnyard inflatables, Dino Suit races, carnival games, face painting, tug of war, entertainment by the LifeStyle Band, and emcee Jenny Hagan. Better Together merchandise will also be available for purchase.

The Kindersley Aquatic Centre will offer statutory holiday public swimming from 1 to 5 p.m.

The day concludes with a fireworks display at dusk, scheduled for approximately 9:45 p.m.

Organizers encourage residents to come out and celebrate Canada Day while enjoying a day filled with community spirit, entertainment, food and activities for all ages.
