Looking for a fun, fast-paced sport for all ages and abilities? The Kindersley Sledge Hockey program, founded a decade ago by Catherine Close, is the place to be! Open to players ages eight and up—even adults—sledge hockey is an exciting way to hit the ice, make friends, and stay active.

Originally created to give people with disabilities a chance to enjoy hockey, sledge hockey has grown into a sport for everyone. The season runs from October through March, ending with the Western Canadian Sledge Hockey Championships in Calgary or Leduc. Along the way, the team hosts its own tournament and travels to Regina for more competition. Practices are held every Sunday for just 90 minutes, and with low costs, it’s one of the most accessible sports around.
This past Sunday, September 14, the Kindersley Klippers Sledge team faced off against the SJHL Kindersley Jr. Klippers in a thrilling Sledge Hockey Showcase Game at the Co-op Arena in the West Central Events Centre. After the game, everyone was invited to try sledge hockey for themselves—and registration for the 2025–2026 season was available on-site!
The game ended with the Kindersley Klippers Sledge team taking a 6–4 victory over the Jr. Klippers—proof that sledge hockey is not just inclusive, it’s seriously fun!
Come out, join the team, and experience the excitement of sledge hockey for yourself!
