HOW MANY KIDS CAN FIT ON A HORSE?

Back in the day, a popular photo op was seeing just that. In this image from Memoirs of Mariposa, Sam Patchell holds the reins while Shirley and Ross Patchell, along with Margaret, Elvin and Elmer Hawthorne, show that five children can sit on a single horse. Meanwhile, Ben Hawthorne steadies the horse by holding its tail, possibly keeping the fifth child from sliding off.
