Fleeing driver, garage break-in among weekly RCMP files

Officers with the Unity, Wilkie and Macklin RCMP detachments responded to a range of complaints between Aug. 11 and 17.

In Unity, RCMP attended a two-vehicle collision in which one driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries. That matter remains under investigation. Members located the subject of a theft complaint, who returned the property to its owner, and the complainant asked that no further action be taken. A complaint of an individual damaging a vehicle was unfounded. Members responded to a Mental Health Act complaint and spoke with the subject of the complaint, and conducted a wellbeing check at the request of a family member. Officers patrolled after a complaint of disturbing the peace but could not locate the subjects. Members also kept the peace while an individual retrieved personal belongings from a residence. A fraud complaint remains under investigation, as does a traffic stop in which the vehicle fled from members. Unity RCMP also handled two traffic complaints, two false 911 calls and one false alarm.

In Wilkie, a public mischief complaint was unfounded. A break and enter at a residential garage remains under investigation, as does a report of a stolen ATV. A theft complaint had insufficient evidence to proceed. Members patrolled after a report of suspicious individuals near a residence but could not locate them, and were also unable to locate a dog reported running loose in Wilkie. Officers conducted a wellbeing check at the request of a concerned citizen. A trespassing complaint at a rural property was reported for information purposes. One driver sustained minor injuries when a vehicle collided with a moose. Wilkie RCMP also handled two traffic complaints.

Wilkie Citizens on Patrol Program members conducted seven patrols in July, covering 339 kilometres over 21.75 hours in Wilkie and area. COPP members have volunteered 433 hours and travelled 3,410 kilometres over 63 patrols so far in 2026. In Macklin, a report of an intoxicated individual in public was recorded for information purposes. Members responded to a Mental Health Act complaint and transported the subject of the complaint to Battlefords Union Hospital for assessment. CP Rail reported a train blocking a railway crossing because of mechanical problems, which was recorded for information purposes. A break and enter at a business had insufficient evidence to proceed. Macklin RCMP also handled three traffic complaints.
