Fifty workers bussed daily from Kindersley to Empress Gas Plant

There have been several white transport buses arriving in Kindersley for the past couple of months. The media team from Keyera at the Empress Gas Plant explained that each day fifty workers were being transported from their accommodation in Kindersley to the gas plant. The Empress Gas Plant is located near the village of Empress, right at the Alberta-Saskatchewan border.

Keyera is currently completing a planned turnaround at its Empress facility as part of its 2026 maintenance schedule. The work began on July 28 and is expected to be complete by September 15.

At the peak period, approximately 700 to 750 workers participated in both day and night shifts. To support this workforce, Keyera arranged accommodations in nearby communities, including Kindersley, Leader and Maple Creek, due to limited hotel availability in Medicine Hat while the Special Olympics were taking place.

However, as of Monday, all the workers are being transported to and from Medicine Hat, now that accommodation is available in that city.
